The purpose of the club is
to teach and foster the sport of paddling. Both novices and top notch
paddlers are members of this beginner-friendly club. Our goal is to train
hard but within the limits of a persons capabilities. At present we are
meeting once a week with the Outrigger 6 person canoes. We typically go
out for two sessions on Saturday mornings. The first session lasts about
1 hour. After a short break we embark for another longer session that
will last between 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. We will usually have18-30 paddlers show up for training on any given day. I attempt
to make the canoes all of equal strengths to make each team work to their
limits. Having 3-5 canoes finishing within several boat lengths of each
other after 30 minutes of paddling hard is just about as taxing on one's
physical being as possible. We keep adjusting the paddlers in the
canoes during the workouts if needed to make everyone’s workout as
intense as possible. Many of us continue our training during the week on our own in
various single racing crafts.
Members of our club do not
have to have their own paddles since we have an assortment of them
available. Most people end up buying one of their own eventually just so
they make sure they have a paddle they like during the intense workouts.
Please feel free to call me (John Edwards) or e-mail me (below) with any
questions regarding practice and or races schedules etc. We are
always having paddlers from around the world join in our workouts when
they happen to find themselves in our area. |
